Data management for Archaeologists

We give students the possibility to follow the first part of this workshop (tutorial ‘Working with databases’) online.

During this course,  you will learn the principles of database design, management, and analysis for archaeological data sets.

  • principles of database design
  • project data management
  • data analysis (querying, data mining)

If you want to get ECTS for this course:

  • Working with databases course: write a report in which you reflect on what you learned during this course, and accompany the report with screenshots from the course. You can earn 1 ECT. You can send your report to secretary@archonline.nl. Deadline: 30 June 2020.

  • 10:45 – 12: 30 making a data management plan (Wouter Verschoof-van der Vaart and Alex Brandsen, Leiden University)
  • 12:30 – 13:15 BREAK
  • 13:15 – 14:00 making a data management plan (Wouter Verschoof-van der Vaart and Alex Brandsen, Leiden University)
  • 14:00 – 17:00 practical: Making it easy(ish): the Heurist data management service (dr. Ian Johnson, University of Sydney)
  • 17:00 – 18:00 evaluation & drinks at home

If you want to get ECTS for this course:

  • Data management course: write a report in which you reflect on what you learned during the different sessions of this course, and add your own Data Management Plan. Deadline: 8 June 2020
