Data management for Archaeologists

1 ECT by attending the database course OR the data management workshop (and handing in a written report)
2 ECTS by attending both (and handing in a written report)

Attendance is free of charge for all ARCHON members, but PhD students will have priority.

 

During this course,  you will learn the principles of database design, management, and analysis for archaeological data sets.  

Program:

7 May: Working with databases (Jitte Waagen)

  • 10:00 – 12:30 principles of database design
  • 12:30 – 13:15 BREAK
  • 13:15 – 15:00 project data management
  • 15:30 – 17:00 data analysis (querying, data mining)

8 May: Research data management

  • 10:00 – 12:30 making a data management plan (Wouter Verschoof-van der Vaart and Alex Brandsen, Leiden University)
  • 12:30 – 13:15 BREAK
  • 13:15 – 14:00 making your data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) (Kristina Hettne, Leiden University)
  • 14:00 – 17:00 practical: the Heurist data management service (prof. Ian Johnson, University of Sydney)
  • 17:00 – 18:00 DRINKS

Please bring your own laptop for this course! Coffee, tea, and drinks on Friday are free of charge, but lunch will be at your own expense.
