Journals for students and Early Career Researchers

ARCHON wants to motivate students and early career researchers to publish their research during their (R)MA and PhD trajectory. To do so, we are organizing the workshop ‘Publishing tips for Early Career Researchers’. Additionally we offer online journals the possibility to introduce themselves to our members on our website. Are you a PhD or (R)MA student, and are looking for journals to submit your paper to? The journals listed below are open to, or especially meant for the publication of research by graduate and PhD students.

KLEOS

KLEOS is a peer-reviewed, open access academic online journal, launched in 2014, which publishes current research and review articles by graduate and PhD students, as well as starting independent researchers, from the fields of archaeology and ancient studies (i.e. classics and ancient History). The journal is published once a year and its main goal is to provide a possibility to graduate and PhD students to publish their research. The journal thus mainly aspires to serve as a platform for starting academic careers, and help students and starting researchers to share their research, gain experience in publishing, and improve their scientific skills.

There is a call for papers out for the 4th edition of Kleos. You can find the CfP on the KLEOS website: www.kleos-bulletin.nl.

BABESCH

BABESCH (formerly Bulletin Antieke Beschaving), Annual Papers on Mediterranean Archaeology, is a peer-reviewed periodical, published since its foundation in 1926 by C.W. Lunsingh Scheurleer. One of its main objectives is to provide a forum for archaeologists whose research and fieldwork focus on Mediterranean Archaeology. Its aim is to present such studies as are likely to be of interest to any student in this subject. This established journal publishes original research papers, short notes of wider archaeological significance and book reviews. It is open to contributors from any country and will publish papers in English, French, German and Italian. It reaches all continents and has individual and institutional subscribers in over 30 countries.

TMA – Tijdschrift voor Mediterrane Archeologie

TMA (Journal of Mediterranean Archaeology) is a Dutch journal that has been publishing current Mediterranean archaeological research since 1988. Issues appear twice a year, one of which is dedicated to a theme such as landscape archaeology, zooarchaeology, architecture, gender or religion. The journal aims to publish a variety of articles written by established academics as well as junior researchers. Next to full-length articles, TMA offers reviews of recently published books and keeps the reader up-to-date on new or on-going research through short research introductions.

If you wish to publish your research, write a book review or a research introduction/update, you can contact TMA via their website. They do accept articles in English under the conditions that you are affiliated to a Dutch or Flemish institution or otherwise based in the Netherlands or Belgium and that your research is in the field of Mediterranean archaeology.
