The Mortuary Archaeology Working Group aims to bring together Archon members interested in the Archaeology of Death. Originating in Groningen, the group started out with regular meetings of PhD and Ma students interested in mortuary archaeology to discuss mortuary theory and approaches to the study of mortuary remains. In more recent years activities of the group have focused on organizing inspirational (inter)national events to the same aim, such as Mortuary Archaeology Today (2018) and Challenging the Dead (2019). As an Archon working group we now hope to bring together and collaborate more closely with peers working on mortuary archaeology within the Netherlands.
On this page we will post announcements about events and other relevant news about mortuary archaeology. Furthermore, we will organise events specifically for the Archon membership.
