Online Skill Course ArcGIS 2020

Online ARCHON ArcGIS skills course

Due to the cancelation of most ARCHON events, we are offering the ArcGIS course online. Anyone can take the course, but we can only award ECts credits to ARCHON members.

Date: You can do the course online at your own time.
Venue:  Preferably at your house. Stay in, stay safe!

Credits: 1 EC. To get the credits you need to take the ArcGIS course online and hand in a written report in which you discuss what you have learned in every module. Include screenshots of your work (It would be great if you make them unique with some colors). Also, include how you would like or could use ArcGIS in your own research. TIP: save your work in ArcGIS often 😉

IMPORTANT – software:

ArcGIS is proprietary software; your University probably has a license and you need to get access (and downloading instructions) via them. We, unfortunately, can’t do that for you. We use ArcGIS Desktop 10.7.1. in the course.
ArcGIS is not available for MAC; in order to use it, you’ll have to set up a dual boot with Windows or use virtualization software such as VirtualBox.
ACASA students (from VU and UvA) can contact Jitte Waagen to get a license code and download instructions.
Leiden University Students: Contact the helpdesk@issc.leidenuniv.nl
Students from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen  can get access to ArcGIS via uwp.rug.nl.

The course can be found here on youtube. The title is ArcGIS 10.7.1 Introductory Course 2020. The course was developed for ARCHON by Jitte Waagen.
The course consists of 4 videos.

To take the course you need to download the demo data here, provided by Gemeente Nijmegen – Archaeology.

About the course:

This course is for students looking for insight into the application of Geographical Information Systems with archaeological fieldwork and analysis as well as students and archaeologist who wish to broaden their knowledge of ArcGIS.
